Shipping Memories: To Antarctica and Back. Documentary Film
Description:
Shipping Memories: To Antarctica and Back is an adventure-filled documentary about two enthusiasts who travel to Ukraine’s Antarctic research station to build Home. Memories—an installation in the shape of a traditional Ukrainian hut. It serves as a reminder of home for Ukrainian polar researchers while introducing visitors to Ukraine.
Tasks:
The documentary was commissioned by balbek bureau, which designed the installation in partnership with Workshop of Wonders.
By the time we joined the project, balbek bureau had already collected footage filmed by the expedition members at Ukraine’s Vernadsky Antarctic Research Station and during their journey there. Our task was to build a compelling documentary narrative around this material.
To bring this story to life, we:
- conducted interviews with the creators of the installation and the wider project team;
- documented the project’s development process;
- told the story of the Vernadsky Antarctic Research Station;
- interviewed Ukrainian polar researchers to portray life in Antarctica, the challenges they face, and the fascination of their work;
- edited the film from all the available footage and completed its full post-production, including collage animation.
The film is currently available to watch for free on MEGOGO.
