Stories of (Post)Industrial Lviv Documentary

Description:

What was life like for the people who worked at Lviv’s factories between the 1950s and the 1980s? And how did rapid post-war industrialization shape the city? These are the questions explored in the documentary Stories of (Post)Industrial Lviv.

The film was produced in collaboration with the Center for Urban History as part of the Create with Suspilne program. This initiative, run by Suspilne Ukraine, supports independent production companies through an open call, commissioning original projects for broadcast on Suspilne’s regional television channels.

Tasks:

  • Explore different aspects of the lives of people who worked in Lviv’s industrial sector. To do this, we identified key themes: work, housing, culture and leisure, the environment, and well-being.
  • Select the protagonists for the film from a pool of interviews conducted by the Centre for Urban History, in order to showcase a variety of experiences;
  • Conduct interviews with people who worked at Lviv’s industrial enterprises.
  • Record interviews with historians to provide broader context for the personal stories.
  • Film former factory sites, what has replaced them today, and other locations relevant to the story.
  • Source archival materials to illustrate the film’s key themes.
  • Edit the film and complete its full post-production.
